Oscar Qualifying Short Film Festival in United States

An Oscar-qualifying festival call for submissions for short films in animation, comedy, documentary, and drama under 40 minutes.

Selected films must be available for DCP exhibition, and films with dialogue must include or be able to provide English open captions for accessibility.

  • The applicant must have the legal right to submit the film.
  • The film must be 40 minutes or under.
  • The film must not have premiered before March.
  • The film must be submitted in one of these categories: animation, comedy, documentary, or drama.
  • The film must not have been publicly broadcast or made available online in the United States.
  • Films that only screened online in a restricted festival setting may still be eligible.
  • Only one version of the film may be submitted.
  • Student films must have been completed while enrolled in an accredited film or media arts course or program.
  • Non-English language films must include English subtitles.
  • English language films must have the option of English captioning.
  • Submission must be completed through the official online entry platform with a valid form, secure online screener, and non-refundable entry fee.
  • If selected, the film must be provided as a DCP.
  • If selected, films with dialogue must include English open captions.
