The Bertha BRITDOC Journalism Fund is an international film fund dedicated to supporting long form feature documentaries of a journalistic nature. This is a rolling application fund. We aim to respond to applicants within 8 weeks.
In addition to our annual 5-day film festival, we are proud to share the American Documentary Film Fund with independent American filmmakers who will participate and compete for financing for new projects as well as works in progress.
It’s our goal to help bring your creative vision to fruition. This is a student grant. We will accept applications from the following: USA – High School Students, USA – University Students – Associates | BA | BFA and International High School or University Students.
The fund is looking to support smart, strategic outreach campaigns for ambitious independent documentary feature films with a social issue at their core; films which have the ability to achieve real change on a local, regional or global level.
The maximum support of a start-up grant is € 7,500 per project. Movies that Matter supports small-scale projects that have a total budget of less than € 20,000. Projects are eligible for a start-up grant for a maximum of two times.

As the foundation works to reduce inequality in all its forms, we support artist-driven film and new media projects, and other forms of creative visual storytelling, that explore the rich diversity of the human experience.
The IDFA Bertha Fund supports international co-productions between documentary filmmakers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe and European co-producers.
